GULCH Magazine — Privacy Policy for the Gulch app
Gulch is a free iOS app from GULCH Magazine that shows a curated calendar of Atlanta art events. This policy explains what the app collects and why.
What we collect
- An anonymous install identifier. When you first open Gulch, the app generates a random ID and stores it on your device. It is not tied to your name, email, phone number, or any account — the app has no accounts. We use it to count how many people saved an event and to understand how the app is used.
- Usage analytics. We record which screens you view and which actions you take (for example, opening an event, saving it, or searching). When you search, we record only how many characters you typed and how many results came back — never the words themselves. Our analytics provider is PostHog, Inc. (posthog.com), and the data is stored in the United States. We do not derive your location from your connection.
- Technical data that any internet request carries, such as your device's IP address and operating system version, when the app loads events, maps, or analytics.
What we do not collect
- We do not ask for or collect your name, email, contacts, photos, precise location, or payment details.
- We do not read your calendar. When you tap “Add to Calendar,” your phone's own calendar sheet opens; Gulch only pre-fills the event details and never sees what you already have.
- We do not use advertising identifiers and we do not track you across other apps or websites.
Where your favorites live
Events you save and events you recently viewed are stored on your device. Deleting the app deletes them.
Third-party services
- Supabase hosts the event database the app reads from.
- Mapbox provides the map. Loading map tiles sends your IP address to Mapbox.
- The newsletter tab and some event previews load pages from Substack and Instagram inside the app. Those services' own privacy policies apply to what loads there.
Children
Gulch is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from them.
Your choices
Because we hold no account for you, deleting the app removes the on-device identifier and your saved events. To ask about analytics data associated with an install, email us at the address below.
